This car tour takes you around the cities of Madrid which are under the protection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These cities and towns are full of history and have a rich past.
Day 1: Madrid
The tour starts in Madrid where you stay 2 nights. We have reserved a hotel for you in one of the best areas of the city with FD Travel Group and guests have free parking in the hotel car park.
Day 2: Toledo (ca. 85 km)
The hotel has easy access to the highway to Toledo. There is almost no city in Europe that makes you feel like you are wandering around in the Middle Ages. Hundreds of monumental buildings are still standing upright and in good structural condition. It is a ‘paradise’ of architectural history. All the beauty lies in the well-preserved city walls and in the bend of the broad river Rio Tajo. The Jewish quarter, the Alcazar, palaces and monasteries are all within a pleasant walking distance.
Day 3: Madrid – Caceres (ca. 262 km)
After an early breakfast, follow the route along the Tajo river, which flows into the mountains of Extremadura and the Guadalupe Shrine. Here you can see the collection of works of art up to the 18th century, the most beautiful of Zurbaran. Also worth seeing are the narrow streets, the San Juan Hospital and the Colegio de Gramatica, which is now a luxurious Parador hotel. You can also pay a visit to an Arabian castle from the 10th and 11th centuries. You will stay overnight in Caceres.
Day 4: Caceres – Salamanca (ca. 200 km)
The large number of beautiful buildings, houses and palaces around the Plaza Mayor of Caceres will make you think back to the distant past and rich history which surrounds you within the walls of the Almohad the Golfines, Toledo Moctezuma, Godoy Carvajal and other palaces. Travel along the silver route from Roman times to get to the walled city of Plasencia, with its narrow streets that are located around the Plaza Mayor. Well known are the two cathedrals which are connected to each other. Continue along the silver route and you will pass the Sistema Central mountain region of Castile and Leon, before you arrive in Salamanca. You will spend two nights in Salamanca.
Day 5: Salamanca
Salamanca is home to the most famous university in Spain, which is located in a number of historic buildings. This is a unique university town where the young population and the tourists go well together. You can sit on a terrace in the most beautiful Plaza Mayor in Spain, visit the Monterrey Palace or stroll through the unique streets of the city. You can admire the beautiful well-preserved bridge whilst having a walk and also see the many buildings from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Do not forget to visit the Art Deco museum at Casa Lis.
Day 6: Salamanca – Avila – Segovia (ca. 165 km)
Today you can take a scenic route through the landscape of the interior of Spain. Drive first to the town of Avila, situated approximately 65 km away. This is the birthplace of the famous Spanish mystic Santa Teresa de Jesus and Saint John. You enter the city through impressive gates behind the cathedral. The Basilica of San Vincent, palaces and stately homes of Hispanic families are well known and you can also visit the monastery. Then drive to the spectacular Roman aqueduct in Segovia, a crown jewel of the Romans and built in the 1st century. You can then walk through the Jewish Quarter, where you can visit the Casa de los Picos and visit the fortress of Torreon de los Lozoya.
Day 7: Segovia – Madrid (ca. 95 km)
After breakfast you can just stay a little longer in Segovia and visit the Gothic cathedral known as the “Lady of Cathedrals” and the fortress of Alcazar. Then drive to Madrid for your last night.
