You can enjoy this beautiful round trip by car or rental car, where you will stay in small boutique hotels and the Parador Segovia. You will visit Madrid, the capital of Spain and the cities of Toledo, Salamanca, Ávila and Segovia.
Day 1: Madrid
Traveling by car or rental car, we have a place reserved for you, the small boutique hotel Acis & Galeta. This hotel is located in the exclusive residential area of Canillejas. With excellent access to Metro line 5 (approx. 20 minutes), which has direct connections to the centre of Madrid, where you can get off at Callao / Gran Via. At the hotel, parking is free!.
Day 2: Madrid
On the second day you can go sightseeing. You can start at Callao Metro Station and stroll through the old town which created the city. Sights of interest here are; the Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Prado or Thyssen Museum or stroll through the city passing the many shops on Gran Via and the many side streets. Or, in the afternoon drive to El Escorial, the largest of all the monastic palaces of Spain. Built by Philip II and beautifully situated on the south slope of the Sierra de Guardarrama, the palace is a very impressive and world famous building that contains many art treasures and works of famous artists. Also, this is the final resting place of the royal family.
Day 3: Madrid – Toledo (40 km)
The hotel has easy access to the highway to Toledo. There is almost no city in Europe that makes you feel like you are wandering around in the Middle Ages. Hundreds of monumental buildings are still standing upright and in good structural condition. It is a ‘paradise’ of architectural history. All the beauty lies in the well-preserved city walls and in the bend of the broad river Rio Tajo. The Jewish quarter, the Alcazar, palaces and monasteries are all within a pleasant walking distance.
Day 4: Toledo – Salamanca (ca. 240 km)
After breakfast you can drive to Salamanca and make a few stops along the way in a number of historical sites along the scenic route. You will leave the surrounding mountains of Madrid behind and travel through a beautiful natural landscape with picturesque villages to Salamanca.
Day 5: Salamanca
Because of the many (language) students it is always very jovial in Salamanca. The Battle of Salamanca in 1812 marked the end of Napoleon’s time in Spain. The damage was enormous and the remaining buildings are Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance style. Find the Frog (La Rana) in the oldest university in Spain and visit the cathedrals. Since 1988 it is also the oldest city centre on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 6: Salamanca – Ávila – Segovia (ca. 190 km)
From Salamanca you can drive firstly to the city of Avila, a nice place to stop and visit this ancient walled city with 88 towers and 9 gates. In the afternoon you will arrive in Segovia with its walled city and many Roman and medieval monuments. There you can find the Aqueduct of Trajan and the cathedral “La Dama de las Catedrales” in the lively Plaza Mayor. For good reason Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 7: Segovia
There is undoubtedly still plenty to see in this historic city. You can choose to spend the day at the royal palace “La Granja”; an imposing baroque palace with beautiful gardens and fountains. La Granja was an important summer palace for several Spanish kings. You can also drive to the village of Pedraza, located 40 kilometers, which has a typical Spanish town history. You will stay overnight at the Parador of Segovia.
Day 8: Segovia – Madrid (approx. 90 km)
After breakfast you can drive back to Madrid where you can fly or drive back to the Costa Blanca or another Spanish city.
