During this tour by car, you will discover many beautiful destinations in Italy. In Tuscany you will learn about the culture in medieval towns of Siena and San Gimignano and of course the special Florence with the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. Then go to Rome and surroundings and you will see sights such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Vatican. Also, Orvieto and Frascati Albaner mountains with his worth. The last two nights you are staying near the lake and you can enjoy the wonderful climate. This trip includes 8 or 11 nights including breakfast in 3 – and 4-star hotels.
Day 1: Montecatini Terme
Today you are traveling by car to Montecatini Terme for the first two hotel nights. Montecatini Terme is a spa located in the heart of Tuscany. From your hotel you can visit the most beautiful towns in Tuscany. How about Lucca, one of the few Italian cities whose former city walls are still intact. In the historical centre you will find many attractions and beautiful squares. Piazza del Anfiteatro has an oval shape and is seen as one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. Pisa is of course also a famous tourist place in Tuscany. Of course everyone knows the city because of the leaning tower of Pisa, but this is not the only thing that Pisa has to offer. The city is situated on the River Arno and has a history that goes back to Roman times. In the center you will see many sights. You will spend 2 nights in Montecatini.
Day 2: Florence
If desired, you can take the train to Florence in about 50 minutes and not worry about parking, just admire this magnificent city. Florence is a city of culture par excellence. It is the birthplace of the Renaissance, and that can be seen in the palaces, churches and art treasures clearly built in this style. Many of these treasures are due to the centuries-long rule of the Medici banking family. This family had a great interest in painting, sculpture and architecture. You will see with your own eyes and enjoy the beautiful remains of the Renaissance. Walk across the Ponte Vecchio and certainly not forget to visit the impressive cathedral.
Day 3: Montecatini – Siena (ca. 110 km)
Today, the tour continues in the direction of Rome. Along the way, there is still the opportunity to visit a few places. Wonderful Tuscan San Gimignano is one of the most attractive towns in Tuscany with its picturesque medieval towers and ramparts. The magnificent cathedral are very interesting, as is the magnificent Palazzo del Popolo and the church of Sant’Agostino. Of course you also shouldn’t skip Siena. It is a city on a hill, dominated by the silhouette of the cathedral, where you can wander through the small streets. You can see in the frescoes in the Palazzo Pubblico that the streets of Siena have hardly changed in recent centuries. The road leads on through the Chianti area and here we obviously cannot miss a wine tasting.
Day 4: Siena – Rome (ca. 230 km)
After breakfast you continue towards Rome where we have reserved a fine hotel for you for three nights in the heart of the city. Rome is a city that must be visited oncei n your life and is full of historic sites, beautiful squares, splendid palaces and fascinating museums. It is also a bustling city and the centre is full of sights including the Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and many other attractions. You will be impressed by this metropolis.
Day 5 and 6: Rome
The choice is up to you today. Want to discover more of Rome? Enjoy the day in this great city and all its beauty and history. The city is also well suited for some shopping or to pick a terrace and experience the specialties of the Italian cuisine knowledge. But the area around Rome is definitely worth visiting too, especially the Albaner Mountains or Frascati. The Albaner Mountains is a beautiful hilly area including the residence of the Pope in Castel Gandolfo. The town of Frascati is known for its wine production. Fine wines are produced here and you are invited to try a local wine tasting here. You can also visit Sorrento
Day 7: Rome – Bologna – Lake Garda (ca. 545 km)
Today journey north to the beautiful surroundings of Lake Garda. Along the way you pass Orvieto and we definitely recommend that you plan a stop here. It is situated on a hill in Umbria in a stunning setting. Park your car at the foot of the town and go by cable car to the top. The highlight of the city is the cathedral but also on the inside the frescoes are impressive. You will also find in various locations around the centre remains from Roman and Etruscan times. You will stay 2 nights at Lake Garda.
Day 8: Garda
Today enjoy the wonderful climate of Lake Garda. The area offers many options and there are nice places to visit. On the north side of the lake there are the attractive towns of Malcesine and Riva. In these lovely lakeside towns you will find plenty of fun and holiday atmosphere. You can also take a boat trip on the lake. From the water you have a magnificent view of the natural banks, the charming towns and the mountains in the background. Also on the south side are some nice towns such as Sirmione. It is one of the most romantic towns on the lake. The narrow winding streets are very charming and cozy. At the entrance of the town you will see the imposing lock Scaligeri. It was built in the 13th century and looks impressive with its many towers and battlements.
Nearby Sirmione is characterized by beautiful landscapes, with many olive trees and cypresses. Are you familiar with the Italian drink grappa? For lovers, we have arranged for you to sample a glass at a distillery near Lake Garda. If you would rather have a big city visit today, then Verona is definitely recommended. The Verona Arena is a world famous city and is the city of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This city is one of the major tourist destinations of Italy. Since 2000 Verona has belonged to the cultural and historical heritage. This famous city is rich in art and architecture.
Day 9: Journey home or extension
Unfortunately, it is already the last day of this wonderful tour of Italy. After breakfast you will say goodbye to the surroundings of Lake Garda and travel back. Of course you can extend your stay!
