In the 18th and 19th century, many artists and wealthy young men made this ‘Grand Tour’ from Milan to Sorrento. You will not only find famous cities like Rome, Florence and romantic Venice on your route, but also smaller, charming medieval towns such as Orvieto, Assisi and Siena.
Day 1: Milan – Bergamo (ca. 50 km)
You will arrive in Milan by private (or rental) car and drive to the green area of Bergamo. Of course you will visit Milan, the Italian fashion capital. Furthermore, the magnificent Gothic cathedral and the Castello Sforzesco are worth a visit. The distance from Utrecht is about 1010 km and about 55 km from Milan.
Day 2: Milan / Como (ca. 50-90 km)
Today you can visit the city of Milan and / or the beautiful Lake Como.
Day 3: Bergamo – Verona – Venice (ca. 200 km)
From Bergamo you take a scenic drive through Verona and Padua to Venice. All belonging to the Northern Italian Pearls. Of course, a visit to Venice should not be missed. You can explore this romantic city on foot and by boat. You will spend two nights in the area of Mogliano.
Day 4: Venice
For these two days you can quietly enjoy the beautiful city of Venice with its Bridge of Sighs, the famous Piazza San Marco, take a gondola tour, or stroll through this beautiful city!
Day 5: Venice – Perugia / Assisi (ca. 390 km)
The tour continues to the “Green Heart of Italy, Umbria. You will be staying near Perugia, in the green area where you can also visit Assisi, the city of St. Francis, whose feast day is still celebrated as World Animal Day.
Day 6: Perugia / Rome (ca. 180 km)
Drive via a scenic route through the rugged countryside of Umbria to Rome. With a visit to Rome, “La Città Eterna”, the Eternal city, you can indulge in the many monuments of this city and visit the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s and the Catacombs of San Callisto. A walk around the beautiful squares such as Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori is also highly recommended. You will spend three nights at Hotel Roma Congress in Rome.
Day 7: Rome
During these three days you can visit this amazing and impressive city. Imagine yourself in a museum, where one building is more impressive than the other.
Day 8: Rome – Gulf of Naples (ca. 225 km)
You come into contact with an entirely different landscape of idyllic seaside towns. Along the way you can visit Pompeii. And what of Naples, you must see this vibrant and chaotic city once in your life. Or a tour of one of the world’s most beautiful coastal roads along picturesque villages like Positano and Amalfi. See the famous temples of Paestum, or a visit to the storied flower island of Capri is definitely worth it. You will spend two nights at your hotel in the area of Vico Equense.
Day 9: Naples Area
These two days can be safely spent in the city of Naples, visiting or enjoying the bay with its cozy, small Italian villages.
Day 10: Napoli – Siena (Tuscany) (ca. 450 km)
Drive from the bustling Naples via Orvieto, beautifully situated on a huge block of tufa, in the heart of Tuscany, Siena and arrive in the overall tranquillity of the beautiful Tuscany!
Day 11: Siena – Tuscany
Visit the charming city of Siena. Guests are welcome to wander around here through the many narrow streets, the beautiful marble cathedral or dream away with a cappuccino in one of the most beautiful medieval squares in the world, the Piazza del Campo.
Day 12: Siena – Montecatini Terme (ca. 120 km)
Today you drive north through the Renaissance Florence to the centrally located, beautiful and popular village of Montecatini Terme, where you will spend the last 3 nights.
Day 13: Pisa (ca. 100 km v.v.)
Visit Pisa with its famous leaning tower. Then to the dreamy town of Lucca, where you can walk around the old city walls. Through the world famous marble quarries of Carrara you can drive along the coast and inland roads back to Montecatini Terme.
Day 14: Montecatini Termee
Today you may still visit Florence (50 km), to see the city a little better and to sample the atmosphere. You can also spend the day quietly near the hotel, in order to continue to enjoy this beautiful journey.
Day 15: End of the tour.
